It seems to me that harping on the fact that 51 votes in the Senate constitutes a majority for the passage of legislation is THE ONE THING WE MUST ALL DO. At every opportunity we should make this point in writing and when we discuss politics with anyone - anyone. Perhaps - wouldn't it be lovely? - this is the issue that will get tens of thousands of people to march on Washington. Is it such basic common sense - a FACT that EVERYONE can understand: in a group of 100 people, 51 votes FOR means that a resolution has passed, and 51 votes against a resolution means that it has failed to pass.
Let's hear it for "51 - The Key to Progress" I can just see it on a gazillion placards!
